Things to Do in Pattaya
Pattaya has a reputation built on its nightlife, but that's a sliver of what's actually here. Within an hour you can be snorkelling off a white-sand island, wandering a hand-carved wooden temple, or watching the kids scream down a water slide. Here's the genuinely good stuff, grouped by what you're in the mood for.
Beaches & islands
The city beach (Pattaya Beach) is convenient but busy; Jomtien Beach to the south is longer and more relaxed. The real prize is Koh Larn (Coral Island), a quick ferry or speedboat hop away, with clearer water and several quieter beaches — the classic Pattaya day trip. Build the boat and beach day into your trip budget.
Temples & viewpoints
The Sanctuary of Truth is unmissable — an enormous, entirely hand-carved teak temple right on the water, unlike anything else in Thailand. Up on Pratumnak Hill, the Big Buddha (Wat Phra Yai) and the Pattaya Viewpoint give you the postcard shot over the bay. A little out of town, Khao Chi Chan (Buddha Mountain) features a giant golden Buddha laser-etched into a cliff face.
Family attractions
Pattaya is quietly brilliant for kids. Nong Nooch Tropical Garden is a vast, beautiful botanical park with shows; Ramayana and Cartoon Network Amazone are world-class water parks; and there's Underwater World, the Tiger Park, and 3D illusion museums like Art in Paradise for a rainy afternoon.
Markets, shows & nightlife
For evenings, the Thepprasit Night Market and the Floating Market are great for food and browsing. The famous cabaret shows (Alcazar, Tiffany's) are a Pattaya institution and very family-friendly. And then there's Walking Street — the neon heart of the nightlife, worth a wander once whatever your scene.
Day trips beyond the city
Pattaya is a great base. Beyond Koh Larn, you can reach floating markets, elephant sanctuaries, and the quieter beaches further down the coast, and Bangkok itself is a comfortable day trip via the two nearby airports' road links.
When to go & what it costs
The cool, dry season (November–February) is the best time for beaches and outdoor sights — see the Best Time tool to pick your month. Most attractions are inexpensive by Western standards, but they add up: a day of paid attractions plus an island trip is where a budget can stretch, so it's worth pricing the whole thing with the Trip Budget calculator.
A perfect three-day mix: one island day (Koh Larn), one culture day (Sanctuary of Truth + viewpoint), and one family/fun day (a water park or Nong Nooch) — with evenings at the markets and a cabaret show.
