Pattaya with Kids: A Family Guide

Updated June 2026 · 6 min read

Pattaya's nightlife reputation makes people assume it's no place for a family — and they're wrong. Plenty of families live here happily, drawn by good schools, excellent healthcare, year-round outdoor life and a genuinely kid-friendly side of the city most visitors never see. Here's how it works with children in tow.

Is Pattaya good for families?

Yes — with the obvious caveat that you steer clear of the nightlife zones for daily life. Base yourself in the calmer areas and Pattaya offers warm weather, beaches, big international supermarkets, a sizeable expat-family community, and more children's attractions than most beach cities. The key is geography: choose your neighbourhood well and the party side simply isn't part of your routine.

Schools & fees

Pattaya has a good range of international schools (British, American and IB curricula), plus more affordable bilingual and local Thai options. International fees vary enormously — roughly ฿200,000 to ฿700,000+ per year depending on the school and age — so this is often a family's biggest single cost and worth researching early. Bilingual schools cost far less. Always confirm current fees, waiting lists and the curriculum directly with each school, and visit before committing.

The best family neighbourhoods

Jomtien is the classic family pick — beach, calmer streets, good condos and houses, and close to several schools. East Pattaya suits families who want a house with a garden and more space for less, accepting that you'll need a car. Pratumnak and Naklua offer quiet and quality. The neighbourhoods guide compares them all.

Things to do with kids

This is where Pattaya quietly excels: world-class water parks (Ramayana, Cartoon Network Amazone), the vast Nong Nooch Tropical Garden, Underwater World, 3D art museums, beaches and island day trips to Koh Larn. There's enough to fill months of weekends — see the things to do guide.

Healthcare & safety for families

Private hospitals here are excellent and used to treating children, with paediatric care and short waits — reassuring with little ones. Make sure your family health insurance covers the kids (see the healthcare guide). On safety, the same rule as everywhere applies most: the roads are the real risk, so be cautious with scooters and car seats.

Budgeting for a family

A family budget looks very different from a single's — school fees dominate, and you'll want more space and probably a car. The Cost of Living calculator has a family mode with children and a school-tier selector, so you can build a realistic monthly figure before you commit.

The family formula: a calm neighbourhood near a school you've visited, health cover that includes the kids, and a budget that's honest about school fees.
